Our restaurant is built on four fundamental values, which are what have made us so special for more than two decades.
We love what we do and it shows! We want employees who genuinely want to work in the hospitality industry. Those who love to interact with guests. Those who like to get involved with their department and the departments of our hotel. And those who ask questions and want to learn something new every day. If this is you, come join our team!
Just listen to what some of our own family members say about how they got their start in hospitality and why they love working here…
"I started in the hospitality industry as a bellman at a hotel in Pacific Beach in 2011 and quickly learned to love the energy that hospitality in a destination city like San Diego could provide. I was interested in all aspects of hotel customer service and quickly moved to the front desk and later into revenue management where I gained a better understanding of key hotel metrics and travel trends. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to grow with the help of managers who saw the value in learning multiple areas of hospitality.
I love the Grande Colonial because of the people I'm lucky enough to work alongside. Every department is full of people with a positive spirit and great attitude who are committed to providing the best experience for our guests. It really is a family atmosphere that I have yet to see rivaled anywhere else."
Working at the Grande Colonial and NINE-TEN to me means constantly learning and expanding horizons. Chef Jason and the rest of the team never rest on their laurels and are constantly utilizing new ingredients and innovative presentations. For me, as wine director, I feel our wine list should also not be stagnant, and I'm always pushing myself and the staff to learn about new wines to pair with and/or challenging my old assumptions and revisiting ‘classic' varietals. It's invigorating. There's also pride that comes with working here. When you say you work here, people take notice. It's instant street cred."
Working for the Grande Colonial has been a blessing to me and to my family. I've grown over the years with Terry being my mentor and am thankful for the entire management team and the hundreds of employees with whom I have worked over the years. We have been through so much and we have accomplished so much. I thoroughly love coming to work every day and putting my passion for hotel maintenance to work!"
"I first found interest in the industry when I took a Hospitality ROP course in high school. When I attended college, I had a hard time deciding between a degree in Hospitality or Criminal Justice, so I signed up for an entry-level course for each subject. My Hospitality instructor had us do a project that required us to contact a local hotel and interview a manager, then present on that meeting. I contacted the HR Director and was surprised when he kindly agreed to meet with me. He told me about immigrating to America and starting out as a busser in the hotel restaurant, eventually working his way up to be the company's HR Director.
A few years later during my last semester (deciding to pursue Criminal Justice), I applied to work Front Desk at a hotel. Having grown up in a family where service was important, I soon realized that I loved working in a hotel to provide service to others. I started at the Grande Colonial in 2011 as Asst. General Manager before moving into HR in 2017, and then being promoted to General Manager in 2022.
Each day I come to work continues to be an opportunity to interact with and serve others while feeling challenged with each new day and situation."
Ana has worked at the Grande Colonial, home of NINE-TEN Restaurant, since 2015. Ana began her career here as a Guest Room Attendant at the recommendation of her brother who also worked here. Ana began her hospitality career at another hotel and quickly realized this was the right industry for her. She enjoys talking to guests and assisting them. Ana left the Grande Colonial to care for a family member but quickly returned when they were fine. She says the Grande Colonial feels like home. She loves the people that she works with, as well as the culture of our hotel. She especially enjoys that she keeps moving throughout the day, which keeps her healthy.
